Make your first song
Create a simple beat and melody from scratch in under 10 minutes.
What you’ll do
You’ll build a short loop with drums, bass, and a melody using Pooly’s built-in sounds. No files to import—just playing pads and a little drawing in the editor.
Step 1: Create a new project
From the Projects screen, tap New Project in the footer. Name it something like “My Epic Beat.”
Pooly opens the Launcher—the grid where you’ll build and play your ideas.
Step 2: Program a beat
Tap an empty clip slot in the first row. Pooly creates a clip and opens Detail View for editing.
Use the piano roll to draw notes, or switch to the performance pads and capture a live performance—great for finger drumming. Try a simple pattern:
- Kick on beats 1 and 3
- Snare on beats 2 and 4
- Hi-hat on every eighth note
Tap Play in the footer to hear your loop. Tap the back arrow to return to the launcher when you’re happy.
Step 3: Add a bass line
Tap an empty slot in the bass MIDI track. Draw a simple bass line that follows your kick—short notes on the root work well for a first try.
Step 4: Add a melody
Tap an empty slot in the melody MIDI track. Sketch a melody over your beat. Keep it short—four bars is plenty for a first song.
Step 5: Launch everything together
Make sure each track has a clip in the same row. Tap the scene launcher button in the footer to show the scene buttons beside the grid, then tap the scene button for that row. All clips in the row start together. If nothing plays, press Play first—or turn on auto-play in Settings so clips start transport when you tap them.
Tips
