Perform with scenes

Launch groups of clips and mix your song in real time.

beginner 8 min

What you’ll do

You’ll use scenes to trigger whole rows of clips at once—like switching between a verse and a chorus during a live jam.

Step 1: Fill a row with clips

In the Clip Launcher, each horizontal row is a scene. Put one clip per track in the same row. Empty slots in that row simply stay silent when you launch the scene.

Step 2: Show the scene launcher

Tap the scene launcher button in the footer to reveal the numbered scene buttons beside the grid.

Step 3: Launch a scene

Press Play if transport is not already running (unless you enabled auto-play on clip trigger in Settings). Tap the scene button for the row you want. Every clip in that row starts together.

Build additional rows for different sections—intro in row 1, groove in row 2, breakdown in row 3—and switch between them by launching different scenes.

Step 4: Mix while you play

You don’t have to launch whole scenes every time. Select individual clips to trigger just one track. Open the Mixer to mute, solo, or ride faders live. Muting the drums for one scene row while keeping bass and keys is an easy way to create a breakdown.

Step 5: Build a timeline later

When you’re ready for a fixed song structure, switch to the Arrangement view and place clips on the timeline bar by bar. Scenes are great for jamming and trying ideas; the arranger is where you lay out the final version.

Tips

  • Keep clip lengths similar (4 or 8 bars) if you want scenes to feel cohesive, try varying the lengths to create a more dynamic performance.
  • Leave a slot empty in a row when you want silence on that track
  • Color tracks in the mixer or launcher so you can spot them quickly
